How the age difference is calculated
The age difference between two people is simply the time between their two birth dates. We identify the earlier birth date, subtract it from the later one field by field, and express the gap as completed years, months and days. Because the calculation works on the calendar directly, every leap year between the two birthdays is counted, so the day total is exact.
Worked example
If one person was born on 3 June 1990 and another on 20 November 1993, the older person was born first. The gap between them is 3 years, 5 months and 17 days. The calculator will name the older person and show the same gap in total days.
Why people use an age gap calculator
Couples often want to know their exact age difference rather than a rounded number of years. Parents compare the gap between siblings. The same tool works for any two people, living or historical — the dates are all that matter.
Frequently asked questions
Does the order of the two dates matter?
No. You can enter the dates in any order; the calculator always reports a positive gap and tells you who is older.
Is the age difference shown in days too?
Yes — alongside years, months and days you’ll see the total number of days and weeks between the two births.
